Texas Drug Rehab Programs
The drug and alcohol rehab
field has actually gotten further away from providing rehabilitation services
than ever before, and has resorted to only short-term treatments instead. This
is true for many programs in Texas as well. A major shift occurred when people started to tread drug and alcohol addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease. This is only a theory and has never been proven, but it is presented to the American people as being a fact, which is false. There has never been a single study to prove this theory. On the contrary, it is an observable fact that people can and do completely and permanently recover from drug and alcohol addiction every day.
There are a couple major recommendations from us in order to accomplish this. One is to invest more than 30 days into yoursel or your loved on in a program. It is more likely that the insurance companies (for those who even have insurance) are the ones who decided 30 days was all they would pay for when going to inpatient treatment. As a result, most programs release clients around the 28-30 day mark - not because they're suddenly better, but because that's what they've been told to do by the source of their income (insurance company or the state).
The second major point is the go with a drug-free program. Along with the brain disease theory comes many new prescription drugs and medications to treat various symptoms of drug addiction or replacement drugs to keep cravings away. This is one of the biggest scams ever pulled on the American people. Putting an addict on more drugs will never cure him because he's still chemically dependent to get through the day. Replacing one drug for another, or temporarily treating the symptoms of addiction (depression, anxiety, mania, etc.) with a mental medication does not allow them to become fully rehabilitated. It is our observation that, invariably, people who take prescription drugs as a part of their drug treatment program will relapse. The best long-term results come from programs that don't try to put people on more drugs.

General Types of Drug Rehabs
As far as looking for types
of drug rehab programs in Texas, there are three general types of
facilities.Drug rehabs cost on average about $7,000 per month. Due to longer-term programs being more successful than 30 days on average, a typical cost for a drug rehab facility can easily be $15,000 - $45,000. Obviously it can go up or down from there. Just because someone has insurance, it doesn't mean they'll pay for the treatment center of your choice. We try to find the most successful programs for at the most cost-effective approach. While it may seem like a lot of money, we are talking about life and death here in many cases, and it is less than a year of college tuition and associated costs in many cases.
We recommend longer-term (90 days or more) programs that are drug-free and use a biophysical approach. This kind of program is based on results and not time. In fact, they charge a flat fee and don't increase their cost if someone stays there well beyond the average time. Biophysical programs are the only types of rehab centers that can effectively remove the stored drug residues from a person's body. In addition to addressing physical components, the have an entire section devoted to life skills social education that is done on an individual basis. The results are phenomenal and they do have much higher success rates than more traditioanl programs.
Another type of program is a long-term religious approach. The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy spearheaded the support for Community and Faith Based organizations in Texas several years ago and there are more church-sponsored rehab programs than ever before. Sometimes these programs are harder to locate though, as they are not required to comply with the same set of standards or certifications as other types of programs. There are many in Texas that do show up on government listing searches, but only a small percentage by comparison. The good thing about these programs is that they are drug-free and focus on a heavy religious and moral value system over a long period of time. These facilities have a fairly high success rate, but a pretty low retention rate, meaning that only a few of those who enroll actually complete it due to the length of time involved.
The last major type of rehab facilities in Texas is the most common. These are the 12-step programs, which have been in existence since before 1940. There is nothing wrong with the 12-step approach in theory, but the concept has been changed over the years to the point where many treatment centers that use this approach also prescribe drugs to their patients, which actually prohibits them from following the steps to their full potential. We can certainly help find programs that use the 12-step approach since they are in abundance by comparison, but recommend a drug-free course of treatment within the center. 12-step programs have a lower success rate, but they have helped millions of people over the years, and having strong intention in a long-term drug-free rehab environment with a good support system can help overcome almost anything.
